OpenJDK Statement
As we approach Oracle’s conversion to a paid support model of the JDK, Fischer Identity has been working to address this issue by moving to deliver our software with open JDK compliance and support out of the box.
With our release of 7.1, we are officially Open JDK 8 compliant and are testing our software against the Open JDK builds as opposed to Oracle’s JDK. This will not eliminate our support for Oracle’s JDK; however it will force us to test and provide Java version support a bit differently.
This direction expands options for our customers when deploying the Fischer Identity Suite and does not force our current and future customers to pay for long term support for the Oracle JDK to continue to use our software. When Oracle decides to designate a particular version of their JDK for “long term support”, Fischer will maintain continuity and begin testing our application against that JDK for customers that choose to continue to use Oracle. Our goal is to provide our customers with comparable support whether you decide to move to Open JDK or continue to leverage Oracle and pay for support.
While we continue to work towards an Open JDK 11 migration we wanted to ensure we were first compliant with our current level of support. Fischer has achieved this and are focused on extending our support to the latest Java release in subsequent versions of our product.
Important Notice Regarding Current Releases and Fischer 5.x Deprecation
As a result of Oracle’s decision and path forward, Fischer International Identity, LLC is officially deprecating our 5.x product line. We will not provide Open JDK support nor will we upgrade our current Java 7 support for any customer currently running a version of our 5.x software.
We now offer Open JDK compliant service packs to version 6.3 and including 7.0, 7.1 and subsequent service packs, as well as all future releases. If you are running a 5.x version, please contact Fischer so we can discuss a plan to upgrade you, if necessary to the latest release.
Thank you for continuing to entrust Fischer Identity with your IAM Program.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use any openJDK build?
Zulu® openJDK is the official build that our Product QA team uses to test against. If you choose to migrate to openJDK, Fischer recommends and can assist with configuring Zulu openJDK for use with the Fischer product. Fischer support for any build, other than Zulu, is limited and functionality cannot be guaranteed.
